Local produce

All sorts of people stay at Dunescape Camber, but one thing they have pretty much in common: they love to sample good local produce.

If you want to check out the finest local farm shops, produce markets, vineyards and micro-brewers, you’ll find links to our personal favourites on this page.

Approach Dunescape from any direction – ok, apart from the sea – and you’ll see various farm shops, delis and roadside stalls advertising local produce. But we’ve discovered that not all of it is actually that local. Some outlets like to provide a wide range of products from further afield. Quite a bit further afield.

Which is great if you simply must have Aceto Balsamico di Modena, or olive oil from the foothills of Etna. Not necessarily so great if you want apples straight off the trees, or carrots pulled that morning.

What we really prize is to buy the things that have been produced right here in this corner of East Sussex and Kent – in the farms, vineyards and hop gardens around Rye and on Romney Marsh.

And it’s a bonus to buy them direct from the producers. You’ll find places you can do just that on some of the producer pages linked to from here.

But not all producers sell from the door. So you’ll also find one or two of the very best shops that source locally, seasonally and responsibly.
