Essential Camber Sands self-catering accommodation guide

There are dozens of holiday lets in Camber Sands on TripAdvisor and AirBnB – so how on earth do you pick the one that is right for you?

First step is to see exactly where the place you are thinking of booking is in relation to the beach.

There are three main areas for holiday lets:

  • Houses right on the beach – mostly in The Suttons
  • Houses within 100 yards of the beach – in Royal William Square
  • Houses on the White Sand estate– 5-8 minutes from the beach

There are also holiday lets dotted around the side streets, on both the beach and marsh sides of the main road through the village.


There aren’t many of those. Most back on to a street called The Suttons, an unmade track that runs west from the eastern edge of the village, and face the beach, with direct access to it.

As you’d expect, you pay a premium for being able to step straight out onto the sands.

These are houses in Camber’s prime location, and one or two of them are absolutely stunning. Sea Gem, featured in this Times article, is the finest house on the beach.

Royal William Square is a development of 20 modern, white-render and cedar-shingle town houses arranged around a communal garden planted to blend in with the adjacent dunes.

5-8 minutes from the beach

White Sand estate, Camber

There are several dozen rental properties on White Sand, a modern estate designed to look like a fishing village, which is across the main road on the marsh-side of Camber. Some of the houses have views across the marsh.

Depending where a house is on the estate, it takes from 5 to 8 minutes to walk to the beach.
